The program takes in 72 goaltenders each session. They are divided into two groups by age (that gives us a student to instructor ratio of 6:1). All of the students are grouped from youngest to oldest, and then divided into two groups with the youngest students in one group and the oldest in the other group. Each group will follow a station system that rotates the goalies through 6 stations to maximize the teaching and learning over the course of 4 days. They also have power skating sessions to work on that important skill.
The off ice program focuses on reflex training drills. The classroom sessions will be used to breakdown goaltending into easy to understand concepts. There is also a Video Classroom where video footage of the students is shown so they can see an example of how they performed at a station. They are given feedback to improve their technique. The students will learn and progress, but most important is our Mission Statement FUNdamentals. Hockey is supposed to be fun and our instructors will teach the students and make their 4 days educational and enjoyable. Each student will also receive a certificate that helps them see what they need to work on to keep improving. They each receive a booklet that they can refer to during their season. The booklet covers the drills they have completed, and is a good reminder of the technique needed for each skill. We also give each student a DVD that we produce because a visual cue works better for some students. It's a chance to watch the drills repeated by one of our instructors and serves as a good teaching tool during the hockey season. If you attend the Goalie Camp you can attend any of our regular sessions (Sylvan Lake or Jasper), as a goalie at a reduced rate. Please see the Dates and Fees page for those rates.
